How to Kill Your Husband (and other handy household hints) – Kathy Lette
3.5 stars
This was the first novel I’ve read by Kathy Lette and even though it was somewhat enjoyable, it still left me lukewarm. The over-the-top humour, with every second sentence an outrageous metaphor, grew tiresome. I enjoyed the friendships that aren’t always perfect and some of the conversations between the friends were funny and cruel but honest. Not sure if that’s true to life though, particularly when they all did horrible things to each other.
The story begins well, a murdered husband, the accused wife. What has happened? Not too much - I needed more meat and most of the story in between meandered.
This book was a commentary on bad marriages, which seemed to reflect on all marriages, which is quite likely not the case (but who am I to know?), and even worse friendships. I didn’t hate the book – it was easy to read and some may even find it fun.
